    San Antonio home sales continue to climb

    SA downtownHomes sales in San Antonio so far this year are shooting above and beyond the growth posted in 2014, with average prices in the city and surrounding area holding onto their steady uphill climb.

    According to a report released by the San Antonio Board of Realtors, August home sales in San Antonio reported a 5 percent increase for a total of more than 2,550 homes sold, with average sales prices increasing by an additional 7 percent to $237,168.

    To date, nearly 18,600 homes have been sold in San Antonio and the surrounding area, equating to a 12 percent increase from 2014.

    At 51.2 percent, homes priced at less than $200,000 still account for a majority of the sales made in the city, but more expensive sales are beginning to take up a larger chunk of the market. In August, homes priced between $200,000 and $500,000 made up nearly 44 percent of sales, and homes sold for more than $500,000 accounted for nearly 5 percent of the month’s sales. Eleven homes sold in August were more than $1 million.
    “We continue to see incredible growth in our area,” Mary Ann Jeffers, SABOR’s 2015 chairman said of the increases. She added that there has also been some significant climbs in areas around the city, including Alamo Heights, Shavano Park, Live Oak, Fair Oaks Ranch, Converse, Cibolo, Schertz and Castle Hills.

    Throughout the state, Texas reported a 5 percent growth in total sales last month as well as a 6 percent increase in average sales prices. In Bexar County, 6.5 percent more homes were sold in August than the same month last year. Nearby Kendall and Medina County also posted significant increases, posting a 28 percent and 31 percent increase in total homes sales last month, respectively.
